    RARE
    BATWING-CUTOUT IRON BLACKSMITH FORGED TOMAHAWK
6 3/8 inches top of bowl to bit.
    bit 3 5/8 inches wide.
Condition: Cleaned off rust ( a long time ago) has left
surface pitting on both sides of eye.
To me it adds character and authenticity, to somebody else it might detract. Color is uniformly patinated deep brown.
    No resharpening or restoration.
Comments: The modeled and shaped "gun barrel" style bowl suggests a Plains to Western origin,
especially with the tall neck. OF IMPORTANCE: The teardrop eye places it in Late Phase II early Phase Three
of John Baldwin's typography, a very early example of a Batwing cutout, and definitely a weapon.
It dates to  about 1840-1850 (not like the 1860-1880 type with dual images, often of
    questionable authenticity).
RETURNS: ONLY IF NOT AUTHENTIC AS DESCRIBED.
